Gurudev tagore wrote this in Geeatnjali:
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake

Recently I read this, I donot remenber the source. Sorry. A google search returned no answers.
Where fear stalks the mind
And the head hangs in shame
Where knowledge is twisted
Where the country has broken up into fragments
By narrow walls of caste and creed
Where words are mouthed for short term gains
Where insatiable lust streches its arms
towards seats of power
Where the clear stream of reason has dried up
In scorching heat
Of communal flare ups
Where the mind is lead backwards by thine enemy
Into ever narrowing thought and action
From this hell my father
Let my coutry awake.

Touching and tragic. Also true?
